More than 200 soldiers have been deployed to Wales to assist fire crews battling wildfires that have caused homes and landscapes to be destroyed. Fire services across the country are continuing to tackle a number of serious blazes, with support from the military.
On Sunday, fire services in Wales confirmed they were attending 20 separate incidents. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service reported attending 14 call-outs, while Mid and West Wales Fire Service responded to six.
Incidents Across Mid and West Wales
A spokeswoman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed incidents were ongoing in Llangynidr, Rhandirmwyn, Pontarddulais, Gorseinon, Llanelli and Tenby on Sunday.
A statement from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service on Sunday afternoon said the six most serious fires are located in Blaenavon; Dowlais; Darran Park, Ferndale; Cwm, Ebbw Vale; Wattsville and Treherbert.
Arrests and Evacuations
South Wales Police confirmed on Friday that four 14-year-old boys have been arrested in connection with a fire on the mountain near Pleasant Heights in Porth. The four teens were arrested on suspicion of arson and have since been bailed under investigation.
Homes have been evacuated in Torfaen, Porth, Merthyr Tydfil and Llandovery as firefighters from across the UK work to contain the blazes. Some 200 military personnel have now been dispatched to Wales to help in the firefighting effort.

Currently, crews from Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, West Midlands Fire Service, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and London Fire Brigade are among those providing support to emergency services in mid and south Wales.
