A dress made entirely from recycled bags-for-life will be among the outfits in a fashion show at the Edinburgh Climate Festival. The festival on June 27 aims to raise awareness about climate change and highlight the importance of adopting a more eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyle.
Organisers of the festival, which will take place at the Meadows, also hope it will inspire and empower people to take action in the face of the climate crisis. There will be a wide range of events at the festival.
Designer's Creative Statement
The dress made from bags has been created by Edinburgh-based couture designer Alison Harm and it will feature in a fashion show at the festival. She created the dress from around 25 bags to highlight the risks plastic poses to the environment.
Mrs Harm founded and produces the ReFashion Edinburgh sustainable fashion event which is normally held in November. The designer, who also runs the Psychomoda boutique in Edinburgh, said: “The whole purpose of ReFashion Edinburgh is to raise awareness about the dangers of fast fashion for the climate, so to be involved in the Edinburgh Climate Festival is pretty cool because it’s kind of an extension of what we do at ReFashion, and we’re hoping to reach even more people through the climate festival.
“Sustainable fashion is very, very important in the fight against climate change so we are just trying to represent that and do it in the way that we are able, by being creative and making these costumes for events.”
Festival Programme
The programme of events at the festival includes workshops, talks, wellbeing events, dance, music performances and a circular economy fashion show. There will also be events for children such as face-painting, a circus session and wooden wand making. The festival runs from midday until 7pm on June 27.
