Kensington Palace has released a new photograph of the Princess of Wales, showing her at the summit of Ben Nevis after completing the National Three Peaks Challenge. Catherine, who announced she was in remission from cancer in January 2025, undertook the endurance event to raise awareness and funds for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, where she received chemotherapy.
Princess Kate's Statement on Cancer
In a message shared by Kensington Palace, the Princess of Wales spoke about how cancer “profoundly affects every aspect of life.” She said: “Every year, hundreds of thousands of people in this country hear the words no one wants to hear. What follows is a path that tests every part of who we are: physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually.”
Catherine added: “Cancer doesn’t just affect the body. It changes how you think and feel and profoundly affects every aspect of life. I know this personally, and that the journey through and beyond treatment requires more than medicine alone.”
The Three Peaks Challenge
The princess climbed the highest mountains in England, Wales, and Scotland—Scafell Pike, Snowdon, and Ben Nevis—within 24 hours on Saturday. The challenge involved 23 miles of walking, 3,064 metres of vertical climbing, and 462 miles of driving between locations. She completed the hike alone, supported by Mountain Rescue, and was greeted at the base of Snowdon by her husband Prince William, their three children, her parents, and her brother.
In her statement, Catherine explained: “I have taken on the National Three Peaks Challenge, not simply as a physical endeavour but as a chance to explore life beyond diagnosis and to give something back. The Royal Marsden is a place that holds great meaning for me and whose care and expertise are life changing for so many people.”
Fundraising and Holistic Care
The money raised will go towards improving access to holistic healthcare, which includes psychological and spiritual support, physical activity, nutrition, complementary approaches, and time spent in nature. Catherine is passionate about supporting the whole person alongside clinical treatment, helping patients tolerate treatment and enhance recovery.
The princess concluded: “Together, we can stand alongside everyone navigating life with cancer, ensuring no one faces this disease feeling unseen or unsupported. Please know you are not alone.”
Background on Catherine's Cancer Journey
Catherine was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer at the start of 2024 and underwent six months of chemotherapy. She has since resumed a normal schedule of engagements and travelled to Italy on her first official overseas visit last month.
