BBC's Nina Warhurst Flooded with Support After Dementia Heatwave Warning
Nina Warhurst Supported After Dementia Heatwave Warning

BBC presenter Nina Warhurst has been inundated with messages of support after posting a candid video urging the public to help those living with dementia during the UK's extreme heatwave. The 45-year-old BBC News at One host drew on her personal experience, having lost her father, Chris Warhurst, to mixed dementia in July last year. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and vascular dementia in 2022.

Heartfelt Warning About Heat Risks

In the video shared with her 53,000 Instagram followers, Warhurst highlighted the dangers of hot weather for dementia patients. She said: "Just a reminder if you or someone you care about are living with dementia to take extra care in the hot weather. And people living with dementia may not always be fully aware they are hot, or they are feeling dehydrated and need a drink."

She added: "They might not be able to communicate it. They might not necessarily be aware of the sort of right, lighter clothing to wear. I remember with my dad, who got very poorly. He entered a stage of delirium on a couple of occasions with the hot weather."

Supportive Messages From Followers

Warhurst captioned the post: "Keep your dementia friends, rellies, neighbours, and good selves hydrated. And don't forget to keep having fun. #dementia #dementiaawareness #livingwithdementia." The comment section quickly filled with supportive messages. One follower wrote: "So true & well said, Nina. A good reminder to us all - thank you so much." Another said: "Bless you Nina. You are such a caring person," while a third added: "Nina you're just so lovely."

Previous On-Air Concern

The post comes days after Warhurst addressed concern over her appearance on BBC News at One, where viewers noticed swelling on her left eyelid. She described it as a "tough week," attributing her distress to covering heartbreaking news stories, including the death of toddler Preston Davey.
