Supermarkets Issue Urgent Recall Over Salmonella Contamination

Major supermarkets including Morrisons, Tesco, Asda, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and M&S are urgently recalling 13 fruit packs after Salmonella was detected in tests. The bacteria, which causes diarrhea, fever, nausea, and vomiting, was found on apples and kiwis used in Prepworld packs sold at these stores.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said there was a “possible presence of Salmonella” and warned customers “do not eat them.” Affected packs should be returned to the store where purchased for a full refund. Point-of-sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores selling these products to explain the recall.

Health Advice and Symptoms

Salmonella outbreaks are frequently traced to raw or undercooked poultry, meat, eggs, unpasteurised milk, contaminated fruits and vegetables, or contact with infected pets. The FSA advises anyone experiencing symptoms—diarrhea, fever, nausea, vomiting—to stay away from work, school, or nursery until symptoms have stopped for at least 48 hours to avoid spreading the infection.

Recent Recalls

The FSA regularly issues product recalls for safety concerns. Last Sunday, it alerted the public about Krispy Kreme Individual Pitch Perfect Doughnuts and the Match Day Dozen due to undeclared hazelnuts.
