The Met Office has identified nine areas in South-east England that could see temperatures reach 30C on Sunday, as a high-pressure system from the Azores brings a return to summery conditions. Deputy chief forecaster Tony Wisson said the weekend will bring "more settled, warm or very warm conditions for many, especially across England and Wales."
Areas Facing 30C Heat
The affected counties include Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, East Sussex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey, and West Sussex. The Met Office's weekend forecast notes that while Scotland, Northern Ireland, and northwest England will be cloudy and breezy with rain, "mostly dry further south with some sunshine. Turning hot in places."
Heatwave Likely but Less Intense
According to Wisson, "although a return to heatwave conditions is looking increasingly likely for some areas, the likelihood of such extreme high temperatures or high levels of humidity as last week is currently low." Temperatures could approach high 20s°C across parts of England, with 30°C possible in the southeast, and mid to high 20s°C in Wales.
Weekend Weather Breakdown
High pressure building from the Azores will dominate the UK's weather from Sunday, leading to settled conditions. However, the far north may still see some rain. The Met Office advises that the warmest weather will be concentrated in southern and central England, with the southeast expected to be the hottest region.
