Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has shared a simple 'no-churn' ice cream recipe that requires only three common ingredients and five minutes of preparation. The recipe comes as the UK experiences a heatwave, with temperatures reaching nearly 37°C in some areas, prompting many to seek refreshing treats.
Three Ingredients, Minimal Effort
On his website, Oliver states: "You'll only need three ingredients, minimal equipment and five minutes of prep time." The ingredients are 600ml of double cream, one 397g tin of condensed milk, and chocolate. Oliver recommends using two 90g Mint Aero bars for a mint-choc-chip flavor or a 175g bag of Maltesers, but notes that any chocolate bar can be substituted.
Step-by-Step Method
To prepare, place the cream in a large bowl and whisk until soft peaks form. Fold in the condensed milk. Bash the chocolate into varied-sized pieces – small bits, big bits, and dusty bits – and fold most into the mixture, reserving a handful. Line a freeze-proof container or small loaf tin with baking paper, pour in the mixture, and sprinkle the remaining chocolate on top. Freeze for at least four hours until set. Before serving, move to the fridge for about one hour to gently thaw. Turn out onto a board, remove the baking paper, slice into portions, and optionally decorate with extra chocolate.
Serving and Storage
The recipe serves 12, but can be halved or doubled. Oliver advises using an appropriately sized container. Leftover ice cream can be stored in the freezer for up to eight weeks.
