Firefighters are continuing to battle a huge blaze that broke out at Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh on Sunday evening. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) had six appliances at the scene at around 6:30am on Monday, after first responding to reports of the fire at 6.38pm the previous night.
Fire Burns Through the Night
An image shows flames burning through the night at the top of the extinct volcano. Another taken from Holyrood shows thick smoke rising into the air, visible across the Firth of Forth. The SFRS confirmed no casualties have been reported.
A spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 6.38pm on Sunday 19 July to reports of a fire in the open at Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh. Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and crews are still at the scene. There are no reported casualties."
Road Closures and Public Warnings
Police Scotland closed Queens Drive at the roundabout near Pollock Halls down to Dynamic Earth last night. Officers confirmed the road remains closed this morning and advise the public to avoid the area. Local residents are urged to keep their windows and doors closed.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Queens Drive in Edinburgh remains closed following a fire in the open at Arthur's Seat, reported to us around 7pm on Sunday, 19 July, 2026. Emergency services remain in attendance, and the public should continue to avoid the area. Residents in the local area should keep windows and doors closed."
Additional Wildfire in Cairngorms
The fire at Arthur's Seat comes as SFRS continued to battle a separate wildfire in the Cairngorms, which has been burning since Wednesday.
