A woman has shared her terrifying ordeal after narrowly escaping wildfires that ravaged her village in Cyprus, leaving destruction in their wake.
The fires, which erupted unexpectedly, spread rapidly due to strong winds, forcing residents to flee with little more than the clothes on their backs. The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, described the flames as "unstoppable" and recounted the panic as neighbours scrambled to evacuate.
Chaos and Courage Amid the Flames
"It was like a scene from a nightmare," she said. "The sky turned orange, and the heat was unbearable. We had minutes to grab what we could and run."
Local authorities deployed emergency teams to battle the blaze, but the intensity of the fire made containment efforts extremely difficult. Firefighters worked tirelessly through the night, risking their lives to protect homes and livelihoods.
Community Comes Together
Despite the devastation, the crisis has brought the community closer. Neighbours opened their doors to those displaced, offering shelter and support. "Everyone helped each other," the woman added. "It’s moments like these that remind you of the strength of human kindness."
Officials have urged residents to remain vigilant as dry conditions persist, increasing the risk of further outbreaks. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
