Professional cleaner Lynsey Crombie, known as Lynsey Queen of Clean, has revealed a simple and budget-friendly technique for cleaning hard-to-reach areas around the home using just two household items: a wire coat hanger and an old sock. The method targets spaces like underneath fridges, behind radiators, and under cabinets, eliminating the need for specialized dusters.
Two-Step Method for Dust-Free Floors
In a recent TikTok clip, Crombie demonstrated the hack by placing an old sock over the end of a wire hanger, then crouching on the floor in front of her fridge and maneuvering the hanger into the narrow gap between the appliance and the floor. She explained: "If you're struggling to clean underneath your fridge and you're not lucky enough to have this yellow duster, then don't worry. Grab a wired coat hanger, an old sock, and you can get right underneath there. And what comes out will be so surprising - lots of dirt and dust."
The caption reinforced the approach: "If you're struggling to clean underneath your fridge and don't have a flat-head duster, here's a simple hack that works brilliantly!" Crombie added that it is "perfect for pulling out dust, crumbs, pet hair and all those bits that seem to disappear under there." She called it a "quick, budget-friendly cleaning hack using items you probably already have at home!"
Cleaning Sequence Tips for Efficiency
In an earlier video, Crombie shared advice on the optimal order for cleaning to avoid wasted effort. She said: "When you clean, always start high. Dust first because dust falls like snow and when you vacuum, go in all directions - north, south, east, west - as this gets right into the carpet fibres." After vacuuming, she recommended using a steamer for "that perfect freshness and polish."
Kitchen Deep-Clean Routine
For kitchen surfaces, Crombie advised a two-step routine: "Clean with warm, soapy water to remove spills and grime, then disinfect with a clean cloth. That's how you get a true, deep clean on your kitchen surfaces."
