The BBC has released a first-look trailer for its upcoming six-part comedy series Ann Droid, starring Diane Morgan and Sue Johnston. Fans have already praised the show as 'incredible' after the preview dropped this week.
Plot and Cast
Set to premiere on BBC iPlayer next month, the series centres on an unexpected friendship. Ann Droid follows widow Sue (Sue Johnston), whose son Michael (Paul Ready) buys her an AI AnnDroid Z58/100 Basic Eldercare Robot named Linda (Diane Morgan) for companionship. Although the robot is designed to monitor elderly well-being, Sue is far from thrilled with her new device.
Trailer Highlights
The first-look trailer reveals key moments, including Sue enjoying a bubble bath with eyes closed when robot Linda abruptly appears, warning of 'danger' as an alert light glows on her abdomen. Startled, Sue shouts: 'Linda, stop it, stop it! You're supposed to stay in Michael's room.' The robot explains that falling asleep in the bath could be 'lethal.' When Sue protests she is naked, Linda replies, 'That isn't a problem for me,' and drops a dressing gown into the bath to cover her. To lighten the mood, Linda attempts a joke, but Sue orders: 'P**s off to the room I told you to stay in, only stay there! I just want a quiet evening alone watching TV.'
Official Synopsis
An official synopsis states: 'But she soon works out she can use the droid to her benefit in settling scores and doing the things her son never gets round to. What develops is a buddy comedy between an older woman and her robot, who isn't quite as advanced socially as she is technically.'
Fan Reactions
Enthusiastic fans have expressed excitement on Instagram. One wrote: 'Woooooo! When I'm telling you this series is gonna be fiyaaaaaah. If you know, you know!! Legends... All of them.' Another commented: 'This is gonna be incredible.' A third added: 'What a laser-perfect casting! Looking forward to this!!!'
Diane Morgan's Comments
