A new YouGov poll reveals that 52% of Americans describe Donald Trump as “dangerous,” making it the top adjective for the 47th President 18 months into his second term. Additionally, 49% called him “corrupt,” 45% said “racist,” and many used “out-of-touch.”
Positive and negative views split by party
Positive terms came mostly from Republican voters: 45% of Americans called Trump “honest,” 40% “inspiring,” and 38% “intelligent.” Democrats overwhelmingly chose negative descriptors.
Approval rating and controversies
Trump’s net approval stands at negative 24%, lower than at the same point in his first term or Joe Biden’s last term. His second term has faced controversies including the slow release of the Epstein files, a controversial immigration crackdown, and an unpopular war with Iran that has driven up living costs globally.
On immigration, 54% disapprove and 39% approve. On race relations, 54% disapprove and 32% approve. On crime, 49% disapprove and 41% approve.
Trump’s crime claim
Trump claimed on Truth Social that under Todd Blanche, murder is at its lowest since 1900 with the biggest one-year drop in recorded history. Homicides in major US cities fell over 20% in 2025, the largest single-year percentage drop on record. However, the FBI only standardized crime data in 1960, so the “since 1900” claim is unverifiable due to inconsistent earlier reporting.
Midterm implications
Poor public opinion could hurt Republicans in November’s midterm elections. CNN’s Harry Enten noted Democrats hold a slim four-point lead on a generic House ballot, less than in 2018 or 2006, calling it a “warning sign.”
