Remove Kettle Limescale with Two Cheap Ingredients: Cleaning Expert Lynsey's Hack
Remove Kettle Limescale with Two Cheap Ingredients

Limescale buildup in kettles can be eliminated using just white vinegar and water, according to cleaning expert Lynsey, known for her appearances on ITV's This Morning and Good Morning Britain. In a social media video, she demonstrated how to restore a pink kettle covered in white limescale stains to a sparkling clean condition.

The Two-Ingredient Descaling Method

Lynsey filled her kettle to a quarter full with a mixture of white vinegar and water, typically recommended at a ratio of one part white vinegar to three parts water. She let the solution sit for approximately 30 minutes. For kettles with heavily affected spouts, she suggested soaking a piece of kitchen roll in white vinegar and wrapping it around the spout during the soaking period.

After 30 minutes, she boiled the kettle, emptied it, and rinsed thoroughly with fresh water. The result was a kettle completely free of limescale stains, as shown in her impressive after-shot.

Why Vinegar Works

Vinegar is a cheap, natural, and highly effective limescale remover. Limescale is an alkaline mineral deposit, primarily composed of calcium and magnesium, which builds up faster in hard water areas. The mild acetic acid in white vinegar breaks down these deposits on contact, making it an ideal alternative to harsh chemical cleaners. For stubborn stains, heating the vinegar solution slightly before use can boost its cleaning power.

Impact of Limescale

If left unchecked, limescale can cause restricted water flow, leaks from taps, damage to kettle heating elements, and reduced dishwasher performance. This simple homemade solution offers an economical and eco-friendly way to prevent these issues.
