Newcastle Park Near NUFC Training Ground Gets Green Flag

Benton Quarry Park in Newcastle has retained its Green Flag status for 2026, joining 31 other parks across the North East recognised as among the best in the UK. The park, located on Whitley Road, is uniquely situated just 0.1 miles from Newcastle United's training ground at Darsley Park, recently rebranded as The KNOX.

Green Flag Recognition

The Green Flag Award, announced earlier this week, celebrates parks that are welcoming, well-maintained, and offer excellent facilities. Benton Quarry Park was praised for being 'welcoming and spacious'. Other notable North East parks retaining their flags include Jesmond Dene, Exhibition Park, Leazes Park, Bolam Lake, and Carlisle Park in Morpeth, the latter popular for its paddling pool during hot weather.

Family-Friendly Amenities

The park features a landscaped nature reserve, a children's play area with climbing frames and playground equipment, seating areas, and a large field. Summer events and activities are planned. It is also a popular spot for dog walkers, with a Google rating of 4.3 out of 5. One visitor commented: 'The place ticks all the boxes and we will be back.' Another said: 'Love this small park. Great walk with the dogs and also a play area for kids.'

Potential Player Spotting

With Newcastle United beginning pre-season training, fans may combine a park visit with a chance to spot players. The park's proximity to The KNOX makes it an ideal location for family outings with a football twist. The 32 Green Flag parks span Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, and Northumberland, offering ample choices for summer holiday activities.
