Brits Say Kindness, Not Money, Makes Them Feel Rich in Life, Survey Finds
Kindness, Not Money, Makes Brits Feel Rich: Survey

A new nationwide survey by HARIBO has found that Britons now define a rich life by kindness, strong friendships, and good health, rather than money or social media fame. The study reveals that 64% of Brits believe life's little joys matter far more than wealth or online popularity.

Key Findings on What Makes Brits Feel Rich

The research shows that treating others with kindness (64%), staying healthy (59%), and having friends who cheer you on (43%) are the top signs of a rich life. Making people laugh (30%), having a best friend you trust with your life (30%), and giving a pet a happy home (29%) also rank highly. Nearly nine in ten Brits (85%) say they already consider themselves rich in life.

Traditional status symbols have fallen out of favour. Flashy purchases, social media popularity, and impressive job titles now rank well behind strong relationships and feeling connected. More than half (51%) believe the meaning of a rich life has changed over the past 20 years, with 57% agreeing it's less about bank account size.

Small Moments of Happiness Matter Most

The survey highlights that small gestures have a big impact. 70% of Brits say a small word of encouragement can turn their day around, while 50% say a smile or friendly hello during their commute makes life feel richer. Three quarters (75%) believe it's important to celebrate little wins with someone cheering them on.

Philip Murphy, Chief Marketing Officer & MD at HARIBO, said: "Success means different things to different people, but our research shows that having people to cheer you on and celebrate everyday wins, no matter how small, is what helps people feel fulfilled. Whether it's reaching a major milestone, achieving a personal goal or simply making it through a tough day, everyone deserves a little recognition."

Regional Differences and Supportive Cities

Residents of Newcastle (41%) were the most likely to regularly celebrate the achievements of friends, family, and colleagues, earning the city the title of the UK's most supportive city. The survey also found that partners (52%), mums (38%), and best friends (34%) are the top people who celebrate successes.

To encourage recognition of everyday wins, HARIBO has launched its "Here for a Cheer!" tour, bringing moments of recognition and cheer to communities across the UK this summer.
