Royal commentators have highlighted the stark difference between Prince Harry and Prince William, suggesting why the Duke of Sussex will always be compared to his older brother. Sky News Australia presenter Gabriella Power and contributor Louise Roberts discussed reports that King Charles is "fed up" with the drama that regularly follows Prince Harry after their meeting last week.
William's Silence as a Strategy
Gabriella said she finds it "fascinating to observe William's silence" on the matter, prompting Louise to argue that he has followed in the footsteps of his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. "I see William's silence as a strategy in itself. It was something that was very effectively used by the Queen. She would say nothing except in an extreme situation where she would utter a comment about a situation," Roberts said.
She repeated the famous phrase uttered by the Queen: 'Recollections may vary', which is how the late monarch responded when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made several serious claims about their time as working royals, including allegations that a member of the Royal Family expressed concerns about the colour of their unborn child's skin.
Contrast with Harry's Actions
Louise highlighted how Harry's actions contrast with William's, noting that the Prince of Wales has chosen to remain silent when his brother has made accusations against the Royal Family in a public manner. "William is playing to what he has always done, which is say nothing and move on and be dignified. He said nothing after Oprah, he said nothing after Spare," she said.
"There were oodles of things he could've commented on and even all that appalling narrative about 'who is the racist in the Royal Family, is it Charles or Catherine?' All while both were battling cancer, he didn't go to war with his brother about that either," she added.
Harry's Potential Motives
Roberts suggested that Harry might have enjoyed some back and forth with his brother, believing it would make good content for his Netflix show. "But William has always been above the grain in that way and doesn't say anything because he is the future monarch," Louise said.
"Harry may have made baby steps in repairing his relationship with his father, but as far as William is concerned, that is still frozen solid," she concluded.
