The World Naked Bike Ride took place in Cardiff on Sunday, June 28, cycling through the city in the nude, much to the surprise of thousands of Metallica concertgoers. The annual event, which started in Canada and now occurs in major cities worldwide, saw participants ride from Cardiff Bay through the city centre, passing landmarks such as the Senedd.
Protest and Awareness
Over two and a half hours, riders dared to go bare on the 12km route. The ride is organized to protest oil dependency, advocate for better cyclist provisions, demonstrate cyclist vulnerability, and promote body positivity. Placards read: "Visible naked. Invisible clothed."
Reaction and Participation
Many onlookers enjoyed the protest, with some taking photos. The event coincided with a busy day in Cardiff as Metallica fans lined the streets. According to event organizers, participants from across the country join each year to support the cause.
