Molly-Mae Hague Faces Eco-Backlash Over Private Jet Use While Pregnant
Pregnant influencer Molly-Mae Hague has ignited a fierce backlash from environmentally concerned followers after she posted images from a recent private jet flight on Sunday. The Love Island star, aged 26, who is no stranger to luxury travel and enjoyed ten lavish holidays last year, embarked on this latest trip with her three-year-old daughter, Bambi.
Furious Followers Question Environmental Impact
Outraged fans quickly took to social media to criticise Molly-Mae, who is expecting her second child with boxer Tommy Fury, also 26. Many questioned why she could not opt for commercial flights, which would significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions. One follower pointedly asked, 'Do you not care about your children's future?' while others labelled her actions as 'destroying the world'.
In her Instagram posts, Molly-Mae looked chic in a grey top that hugged her blossoming baby bump, paired with a baseball cap and an oversized leather jacket. Bambi was seen sharing a kiss with her mother as they strolled around the cabin, with Molly-Mae captioning the snaps: 'Soaking up the last moments of just us.'
However, the sentimental caption did little to appease critics. One comment read, 'Wild to be using a private jet. What will be left of this planet in 50 years time? It’s a terrifying situation for future generations.' Another added, 'OMG so exciting!!! Destroying the world with your private jet. Keep up the good work and your newborn will grow up in... whatever is left of the world.'
Further criticism highlighted the perceived irony, with one user stating, 'There is an irony in making an Instagram post which pays homage to the next generation, whilst contributing to our planet's very hostile (but avoidable) future by taking a private jet.' Another expressed frustration, saying, 'I'm over here sorting my milk cartons from my cardboard and you're flying in a private jet?'
Private Jets and Climate Change: The Stark Reality
Despite being owned by just 0.003 per cent of the global population, research indicates that private jets make an 'outsized' contribution to climate change. A study from Linnaeus University in Sweden revealed that private jets produced 15.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) in 2023, marking a 46 per cent increase from 2019 levels.
The data further shows that the most frequent private jet fliers each churned out approximately 2,400 tonnes of emissions in 2023. This staggering figure is more than 500 times the average individual's carbon footprint, underscoring the significant environmental impact of such luxury travel.
Molly-Mae's Culinary Confessions and Celebrity Bake Off Appearance
Amidst the controversy, Molly-Mae has been preparing for her upcoming appearance on Great Celebrity Bake Off: Stand Up To Cancer, where she will join celebrities like JoJo Siwa and Scott Mills. In a recent interview with The Mirror, she admitted to being 'very lazy with everyday cooking' and revealed her limited experience in the kitchen.
When asked about her biggest cooking fails, she said, 'I'm very lazy when it comes to everyday cooking, so I feel like I don't have many disasters because I don't make much effort to actually cook!' To prepare for the show, she enlisted the help of a baker named Kate, who assisted with practice sessions at her home.
Despite her self-professed laziness, Molly-Mae has a tradition of baking elaborate cakes for her daughter's birthdays. Earlier this year, she created a cake in the shape of a goody bag for Bambi's third birthday, sharing photos of the kitchen carnage involved. Previous years have featured designs such as a pony stable and a candy house, showcasing her creative efforts for special occasions.
Pregnancy Update and Family Life
Elsewhere, Molly-Mae announced last month that she is expecting her second child with Tommy Fury and is already six months pregnant. She shared an update on Instagram with a series of photos, including one showing her growing baby bump and a sonogram of her unborn baby projected onto a wall, with Bambi gazing up at it.
This personal milestone, however, has been overshadowed by the ongoing debate over her travel choices, as followers continue to voice concerns about the environmental legacy being left for future generations.
