The Duchess of Sussex was initially expected to accompany her husband for engagements marking the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games in Birmingham, but she opted out of the London leg, citing security concerns.
Private Meeting Steals the Spotlight
Despite not appearing publicly, Meghan did travel to the UK with her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, for a private meeting with King Charles III and Queen Camilla—their first in four years. The reunion, kept under wraps by both parties, dominated news coverage. PR expert Renae Smith, founder of The Atticism agency, told the Daily Express: "The biggest headline ended up being the private meeting with the King and Queen, and that was probably the best possible outcome from a PR perspective."
Smith noted that Meghan "dominated some of the headlines, but she always will when it comes to the Royal Family. But this time, it felt far more measured."

However, she added: "What this trip did do was stop making things worse. And when it comes to Meghan, that REALLY matters." The expert emphasised that halting negative momentum is a significant achievement for the Duchess, whose public standing has suffered since stepping back from royal duties.
