Edward and Sophie Quietly Support Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Amid Scandals
Edward and Sophie Quietly Support Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor

Prince Edward and his wife, Duchess Sophie, are reportedly among the few royals still in contact with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who has faced a dramatic fall from grace over the past nine months. The former Duke of York, 66, has been embroiled in scandals linked to the Epstein Files, which revealed his continued correspondence with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein after Epstein's conviction for child sex offences. Andrew's reputation suffered further damage when he was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office; he was released the same day but remains under investigation.

Losses and Isolation

As a result of these controversies, Andrew has lost his royal titles, his former residence at Royal Lodge, and any prospect of public royal appearances. He has also reportedly become estranged from his daughters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, with no known recent contact. King Charles, who provided Andrew with a five-bedroom home on the Sandringham Estate, is also believed to have ceased communication with his brother.

Edward and Sophie's Continued Support

Despite this widespread isolation, Edward and Sophie have maintained a relationship with Andrew. They visited him at his Marsh Farm home shortly after his arrest at Easter. Further evidence of their support emerged when Andrew attended the Sandringham Horse Driving Trials on Sunday to watch Sophie compete. An onlooker told The Sun: "Andrew sneaked in and sneaked out and definitely didn't want to be seen. But I saw Andrew leave the field at 10.30am, just after Sophie had ridden her round, then I saw Edward walking towards his car smiling shortly afterwards."

Ongoing Investigation

Andrew has consistently denied all allegations against him. However, the investigation into his conduct in public office remains active, and his future interactions with the royal family continue to be limited. It is not known whether he managed to speak with Edward and Sophie at the trials or when they last visited him at his home.
