A visitor to Alton Towers described the scenes as 'horrific' after encountering lengthy queues and what he called 'chaos' at the Staffordshire theme park. Kyle, who posts under the handle themeparkadventure on TikTok, documented his experience in a video that has sparked widespread discussion about summer crowding at the popular attraction.
Visitor's Account of the Day
In the clip, Kyle showed his phone screen displaying queue waiting times for various rides. While some attractions had estimated waits of 35 minutes, others were reported to be around 120 minutes. He also filmed the snaking queues, which appeared extraordinarily long. In the comments section, he described the situation as 'horrific'.
The video prompted a flurry of reactions from viewers. One person commented: 'Today was terrible. 60 minutes for Wicker Man.' Kyle replied: 'Eww, it's only going to start getting worse from here as summer approaches.' Another viewer wrote: 'I would go home, not going to lie.' A third added: 'Looks rather busy.' However, one visitor offered a different perspective, stating: 'I had gold fast track. ZERO wait.'
Park's Advice for Managing Queues
Alton Towers recommends that visitors arrive early, as the first 60 to 90 minutes after opening typically offer the shortest waiting times. Weekdays, especially Tuesday and Wednesday, generally see lighter footfall, while weekends and school holiday periods experience considerably longer waits.
A spokesperson for Alton Towers Resort said: 'While queues for our most popular rides can be longer during peak periods, particularly on busy summer days, we work hard to ensure guests have the best possible experience throughout their visit. We provide live queue time information via the Alton Towers Resort app and around the park to help guests plan their day, and offer Fastrack options for those who wish to reduce their wait on selected attractions. Our teams continually monitor ride operations and queue times throughout the day, making adjustments wherever possible to maximise capacity and keep guests moving. We remain committed to delivering a fantastic day out for every guest.'
Summer Crowds Expected to Increase
As the summer holidays approach, theme parks across the UK are expected to see rising visitor numbers. Kyle's video serves as a reminder for guests to plan ahead, using tools like the official app and considering Fastrack passes to minimise wait times. Despite the queues, Alton Towers remains a top destination for thrill-seekers, with rides like The Smiler and Wicker Man drawing large crowds.
