From Friday Night Dinner to a Lasting Legacy

Tom Rosenthal's career was defined by his role in Friday Night Dinner, which aired on Channel 4 from 2011 to 2020. The BAFTA-nominated show followed the weekly exploits of the middle-class Jewish Goodman family and also starred Simon Bird, Tamsin Greig, and the late Paul Ritter.

The series concluded after six successful runs, with the final episode revealing that both Jonny and his on-screen brother Adam (Simon Bird) were set to become fathers. Following the tragic death of co-star Paul Ritter in 2021, creator Robert Popper confirmed he had no plans to continue the series without him.

In 2021, Channel 4 broadcast a 90-minute special marking the show's 10th Anniversary, which was dedicated to Ritter's memory. Co-star Tamsin Greig later revealed she had urged Paul not to participate in the special due to his poor health, but praised his 'courage and generosity' for taking part.

Life After the Goodmans

Since his time on Friday Night Dinner, Rosenthal has remained busy. He starred in the ITV2 sitcom Plebs, which ran from 2013 until 2022. More recently, he joined a group of celebrities, including Spencer Matthews and Christine McGuinness, for the BBC series Pilgrimage: The Road Through North Wales.

This new chapter in his personal life marks a joyous milestone for the actor, whose career continues to flourish both on and off the screen.
