The Notebook musical to make West End debut in 2027

The stage musical adaptation of The Notebook is set to make its UK debut in London's West End. Adapted from Nicholas Sparks' debut novel and the 2004 film starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, the story follows Allie and Noah, two lovers separated by class divisions who later reunite and confront their enduring feelings for each other.

Performances and Venue

Performances will begin at the Judi Dench Theatre, currently known as the Shaftesbury Theatre, in April, with tickets going on sale today (October 23). The venue will be officially renamed the 'Judi Dench Theatre' in February next year, honouring Dame Judi Dench's seven-decade contribution to British theatre and the performing arts.

The production opens on April 13 2027, with previews running from March 10. Casting has yet to be announced, and tickets are available from Friday.

Creative Team and Response

Reflecting on the milestone, Sparks remarked that he never envisioned his 30-year-old novel resonating so strongly with audiences worldwide. He said: "I couldn't have predicted when I published The Notebook 30 years ago that this story would have such a lasting impact around the globe. The worldwide response has been incredible, and I'm thrilled to share this latest evolution of the story with audiences in London."

Co-directed by Michael Greif and Schele Williams, the show features choreography by Katie Spelman. Singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson, known for tracks like The Way I Am and Girls Chase Boys, composed the score and lyrics. Michaelson called it "such an honour" and "beyond thrilling" for the musical to be the first at the newly named theatre, adding: "The thing that makes a musical so special for me is the collaborative nature of it, and I can't imagine a better team of people to have built The Notebook."
