The Cure will begin this year's Live From Wythenshawe Park series on Friday, August 21, with support from The Slow Readers Club and Slowdive. The concert series, which started in 2023, has expanded significantly, with acts now playing to 35,000 fans each night.
This year features five gigs across two weekends: The Cure and Lewis Capaldi on Friday and Saturday, followed by Pulp, Courteeners, and The Prodigy over the August Bank Holiday weekend. The Cure's show is one of the few open-air performances the band is playing this summer.
Band History and Performance Details
The Cure formed in Crawley in the late 1970s, known for goth-rock and alternative pop hits like Just Like Heaven, Friday I'm in Love, Boys Don't Cry, and A Forest. Since their first show in 1978, they have performed nearly 1,800 concerts worldwide, released 14 studio albums, and more than 40 singles.
Doors open at 4pm, with support acts at 5:20pm and 6:35pm, and The Cure on stage at 8:15pm. Organisers encourage using public transport, including the Metrolink or a dedicated shuttle bus from near Piccadilly railway station. Trams are expected to be busier between 2pm and 8pm to the park, and between 10pm and midnight returning to Manchester, with an enhanced tram service around Wythenshawe Park. Wythenshawe Road and Baguley tram stops will close from 9pm.
