Another star from Strictly Come Dancing has made a surprise appearance on EastEnders, just days before La Voix is set to arrive in Walford. Jenny Thomas, the salsa and Charleston choreographer for the BBC dance competition, played dance instructor Fabia in scenes broadcast across two episodes this week.
Linda's Salsa Class Gets a Boost
In the storyline, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) organised a sober salsa class at the community centre to encourage her neighbours to enjoy a fun afternoon of dance. Initial attendance was low until Max Branning (Jake Wood) persuaded several Square regulars to join, allowing the class to proceed. Fabia was then called upon to start the music and lead the dancing.
Viewers who recognised Fabia will know her as Jenny Thomas, Strictly's resident salsa and Charleston choreographer, who frequently appears in the show's video packages to explain dance techniques. Thomas took to social media to confirm her role, posting on Instagram: 'Yes I was actually on Eastenders this week! Had an absolute blast playing Fabia the salsa instructor. (No lines, but "on screen specialist") Thank you to @bbceastenders for the opportunity. Loved every minute. Thanks to @mrjakewood @kelliebrightofficial for making me feel so welcome and reminiscing Strictly days!'
Strictly Alumni Connection
The casting choice was fitting, as both Kellie Bright and Jake Wood are former Strictly contestants. Bright competed in 2015, reaching the final and earning two perfect scores, while Wood participated in 2014, being eliminated in the semi-final to widespread surprise. Their characters Linda and Max were natural leads for the dance class scenes.
The EastEnders-Strictly crossover continues next week when La Voix, who competed on Strictly last year, will appear as herself during Pride celebrations in Walford. EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One, with early streaming available from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
