Sheridan Smith received rapturous applause as she took her final bow at the press night performance of 'Woman In Mind' this Tuesday. The celebrated actress, 44, appeared overjoyed by the audience's reception for her leading role in the psychological comedy, which is now playing in London's West End.
A Star-Studded Opening Night
During the curtain call at the Duke of York's Theatre, Smith, barefoot and wearing a white floral dress that showed off her tattoos, flashed a beaming smile to the crowd. The production marks a significant theatrical moment, as comedian Romesh Ranganathan makes his West End debut playing psychiatrist Bill Windsor.
Following the performance, the cast celebrated at an after-party held at The Londoner Hotel. Smith posed for photographs alongside Ranganathan, having changed into a stylish cropped black blazer and matching lace-edged maxi skirt. Ranganathan opted for a smart grey suit paired with a blue T-shirt.
About the Play and its Cast
In 'Woman In Mind', Sheridan Smith portrays Susan, a housewife stuck in an unhappy family life. After sustaining a head injury, Susan's reality fractures, leading her to imagine an idealised, perfect family. The lines between her mundane existence and this vivid fantasy world begin to dangerously blur.
The impressive supporting cast includes Louise Brealey as Muriel, Tim McMullan as Gerald, and Sule Rimi as Andy, with direction by Michael Longhurst. The play's West End run continues at the Duke of York's Theatre until the end of February 2025.
Tour Dates and Celebrity Attendees
After its London engagement, the production will embark on a UK tour. It is scheduled to play at the Sunderland Empire from 4th to 7th March, followed by a run at the Theatre Royal in Glasgow from 10th to 14th March.
The press night attracted a host of famous faces from the entertainment world. Attendees included Happy Valley star James Norton, who wore a khaki coat over a red jumper, and comedians Frankie Skinner and Paul Whitehouse. Actors Ross Boatman, Sir Tony Robinson, and Stephen Mangan were also spotted braving the chilly evening to show their support.
The opening comes shortly after Sheridan Smith's emotional appearance on This Morning, where she discussed her upcoming ITV drama, 'I Fought The Law'. Smith was visibly moved while speaking with Ann Ming, the real-life campaigner she portrays, whose 15-year fight changed the Double Jeopardy law to bring her daughter's murderer to justice.
