The Royal Court Theatre in Liverpool city centre will stage The Scouse Nativity, The Greatest Story Ever Told from Friday, November 6 until Saturday, January 16 2027. The annual show, which has previously offered Scouse versions of classic tales such as Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and Dick Whittington, returns tonight for the festive period.

Written by Kevin Fearon, the production was first staged in 2017. The cast includes Helen Carter, Paul Duckworth, Lindzi Germain, Adam McCoy, Tim Roberts, Lydia Rose Morales Scully, Jess Smith, Keddy Sutton and Lenny Wood. Nicole Behan directs the show, fresh from her work on Letter to Brezhnev.
The show's description reads: "The stage is set in Bethlehem, 0 AD (or 0 BC, I’m not too clued up on these things) and Terry, a lonely shepherd, looks out over the land and sees that all is good. Apart from that bloody great star. He should probably take a look at that."
A Scouse retelling of the Nativity
The description continues: "And so it came to pass (fortunately for The Royal Court) that Terry, in the pub with his mates, decided to keep a record of that beautiful star and the events that followed. 2026 years later we have finally unlocked the secrets of the Gospel according to Saint/Our Terry... The Scouse Nativity!"
The production runs at the Royal Court Theatre throughout the festive season, with performances scheduled until mid-January 2027.
