The Scottish Screenwriters Festival has announced a new partnership with Showcase Cinema in Bargeddie, Monklands, launching the Scottish Screenwriters Festival Presents weekly screening season. Running from July 16 to September 24, the Thursday evening season will celebrate Scottish filmmaking and world-class screenwriting in the lead-up to this year's festival.
Season Highlights and Films
The season combines acclaimed international films with Scottish independent features. Highlights include All Quiet on the Western Front, celebrating Academy Award-winning screenwriter Lesley Paterson; Minority Report, written by festival guest Scott Frank (The Queen's Gambit, Department Q); and The Fifth Element, celebrating visionary screenwriting. Scottish independent features include Mercy Falls, Dick Dynamite, Welcome to G-Town, Grow, SuperTerranean, Electric Man, and Lost at Christmas, with filmmaker Q&As where possible.

Maureen Hascoet, founder of the Scottish Screenwriters Festival, said: "The Scottish Screenwriters Festival has always been about building community around storytelling. This partnership with Showcase allows us to extend that conversation beyond the festival itself, celebrating both internationally acclaimed writers and the incredible independent filmmaking happening across Scotland today. Our hope is that this becomes a lasting platform where Scottish audiences can discover Scottish films, meet the people who make them and continue building connections across our screen sector."
Tickets are available at the Showcase Cinemas website, and all screenings are at Showcase Cinema de lux Glasgow Bargeddie, near the M8 motorway. The Scottish Screenwriters Festival 2026 takes place on September 12-13 at the voco Grand Central, Glasgow, with the theme 'Strong Ground' exploring purpose, resilience and creative courage.
