Scotland's Hidden Poetry Path with Sculptures and Views

Scotland is renowned for its spectacular walking routes, winding through dramatic glens, ancient forests, and sandy coastlines. While many visitors flock to the country's famous mountains and lochs, some of the most rewarding walks are hidden gems, where the journey is about savoring the scenery rather than reaching a summit. One such treasure near Dunkeld combines breathtaking views with a creative twist, inviting walkers to discover poetry, sculptures, and art at every turn.

The Corbenic Poetry Path: A Unique Trail in Perthshire

Tucked away in Perthshire, the Corbenic Poetry Path is a light 3.5km circular route that takes visitors through woodlands, moorland, and along the banks of the River Braan. Located within the grounds of Corbenic Camphill Community near Dunkeld, this free walk has become a favorite among those seeking a peaceful stroll with a creative element. The route features works from some of Scotland's finest contemporary poets, with their words displayed throughout the walk. Many poems are accompanied by sculptures, some created by students from the Budapest School of Fine Art, who spend their summers at Corbenic.

Art and Nature in Harmony

Visitors are encouraged to walk at a gentle pace, taking in the surroundings and art as they go. Each section of the route offers something new: a line of verse carved into stone, a striking sculpture intertwined with the trees, or a picturesque view of the countryside. According to the official website, the path began with a simple request for more paths and better access, evolving into something magical. The site explains: "In the beginning there was no grand plan. There was a request – more paths, better access. And there was a community who value creativity. And there was a poet. And a stone-carver. And from this the Corbenic Poetry Path began to evolve into being."

Practical Information for Visitors

The walk is completely free to explore, with visitors asked only to bring the time needed to enjoy it. While most complete the circular route in about an hour, many take it slower to indulge in the poetry, sculptures, and peaceful surroundings. The walk is signposted from the Old Military Road near Dunkeld (postcode PH8 0DY), with parking available on site. The path begins just beyond the car park and follows a circular route around the community's boundary. It is suitable for most fitness levels, though some sections can be uneven and slippery in wet weather, so sturdy footwear is recommended. Unfortunately, the trail is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. A map is available to download on the official Corbenic Poetry Path website.

Visitor Reviews and Praise

Followed it up with coffee and cake at the community cafe in Dunkeld." However, they noted mobility limitations: "Definitely not suitable for prams or wheelchairs, or people with reduced mobility as there are a couple of places you have to climb up or down steps." Another reviewer said: "Highly recommend this walk. The path meanders up and down across a varied landscape with superb views. An easy walk for a sunny February afternoon stroll. The poetry and sculptures are a lovely addition: if they're not your thing they aren't in your face. We will definitely return." A third described it as "a wonderful experience," adding: "Set in beautiful countryside with breathtaking views, this themed path is one of Scotland's hidden wonders.
