Comedy legend Paul Chuckle has reassured fans after a fall at home left him with a suspected broken elbow. The 78-year-old entertainer shared a photograph on Instagram showing his arm in a sling, captioning it with typical Chuckle Brothers humour: "Oh dear oh dear oh dear! Tripped UP the wooden stairs ... thankfully not on the ice, keep safe guys."
Earlier that day, Paul told Express.co.uk: "I actually fell and I think I've broken my elbow. I'm going to pop down to the hospital after this and get an X-ray just to see. I was in my house, I was walking up the stairs and I tripped on the step. I put my arms up to stop but hit the back of my elbow on the stairs." Supporters quickly flooded the comments with well-wishes for a swift recovery.
Paul, whose full name is Paul Elliott, was recently awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours list for his exceptional work with Marie Curie, the UK's leading end-of-life charity. He is due to visit the Palace later this year to receive the honour. Reflecting on the news, he said: "I had no clue whatsoever. I opened it up and it was just a fabulous feeling." He had initially mistaken the letter for hospital correspondence due to the blue envelope.
The comedy icon rose to fame starring in the beloved BBC children's programme ChuckleVision alongside his late brother Barry Elliott. The pair delighted audiences for over five decades, also appearing in 50 pantomimes together before Barry's passing in 2018. They were appointed official ambassadors for Marie Curie in October 2016, and Paul has remained an active ambassador since his brother's death.
