Morning Live Star Nick Stapleton Follows Parents' Footsteps on Watchdog
Nick Stapleton Joins Watchdog, Follows Parents' Legacy

Nick Stapleton, the son of legendary broadcasters John Stapleton and Lynn Faulds Wood, has joined the BBC's Watchdog as a presenter, continuing his parents' legacy of consumer journalism. Stapleton, already known for his work on Morning Live, The One Show, and Scam Interceptors, said the appointment holds "real poignancy" following the deaths of both parents.

Family Legacy in Consumer Affairs

Stapleton's mother, Lynn Faulds Wood, died in 2020 at age 72 after a stroke, and his father, John Stapleton, passed away in September 2025 following a Parkinson's disease diagnosis. John Stapleton was a renowned broadcaster who worked on Nationwide, Panorama, Breakfast Time, and GMTV, and alongside Lynn on BBC's Watchdog, where they became icons of campaigning journalism.

"Uncovering scams and fighting for consumer fairness is in my blood," Stapleton said. "I grew up watching my mum doorstepping people and holding them to account, and it lit a fire in me."

Joining Watchdog Line-up

In May 2026, it was confirmed that Stapleton and Amber Haque would join Matt Allwright and Nikki Fox as presenters of Watchdog, now broadcast as part of The One Show. Stapleton acknowledged the emotional weight of the role: "My parents aren't around any more, so there is a real poignancy in joining Watchdog, a programme that was such a huge part of our lives. I truly believe in public service broadcasting and it's a privilege to join Matt, Nikki and Amber to continue that legacy."

Tribute to Parents

After his father's death, Stapleton shared a childhood photo on Instagram with a tribute: "I'm incredibly blessed to have had two pretty remarkable parents. Amazing people who in amongst all they achieved somehow also found the time to do a decent job raising me. Losing them both comparatively young is very hard to take."

He noted that John "loved being a broadcaster" and "more than anyone he loved my mum. Losing her broke him for a long time, although he managed to find his own way and lived a full life without her. He loved his friends, socialising, dinner parties and mostly, wine. He was just a very loving, unbelievably generous man. You won't meet anyone with a bad word to say about him."

Career and Impact

Stapleton is an investigative journalist who tirelessly exposes scams and fraudulent activity, writing extensively on the topic. His work on Morning Live, The One Show, and Scam Interceptors has made him a familiar face to daytime audiences. The new Watchdog role cements his place as a consumer champion, following directly in his parents' footsteps.
