Love is in the air at the Edinburgh Fringe, where several couples are performing together, with one pair even getting married on stage. Actors and writers Linus Karp and Joseph Martin will tie the knot at the Pleasance Grand on Saturday, with tickets priced at £12 each. The couple, known for their loud, queer and joyous work, say the wedding feels right despite its silliness.
Their vows will be real, and the event will also raise the profile of their other show, The Fit Prince (Who Gets Switched on the Square in the Frosty Castle the Night Before [Insert Public Holiday Here]). The show, inspired by binge-watching romantic films during Covid, blends camp irony with genuine affection.
Another double helping of married couples is behind the aerial dance show Imago, created by former Cirque du Soleil stars Gabrielle Martin and Jeremiah Hughes. Now directed by the couple and performed by Eowynn and Isak Enquist, the show requires high levels of trust as acrobats hold each other aloft. 'The chemistry and the struggle are real,' says Martin.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles musical duo Marnina Schon and Micah O'Konis present Couplet: Honey Honey Moon Moon, a honeymoon comedy set after a disastrous wedding. Directed by comedians Chris Grace and Eric Michaud, the show revels in the contrast between the younger couple's harmony and the directors' cantankerousness.
