Lindzi Germain is returning to the Royal Court stage as The Scouse Nativity is brought back for 2026, nine years after it was last performed. The 54-year-old, who plays Angela Gabriel in this year's edition, spoke to the ECHO in an exclusive interview about why the theatre's Christmas shows have been embraced by the city.
A Family Tradition at Christmas
Lindzi said the Royal Court Christmas shows are written for the people of the city. She recalled meeting a woman who got off the bus, bought tickets for the family as Christmas presents, and then got the bus straight back home.
"Families come and now it's a tradition at Christmas. The Royal Court has made a family tradition. You put a carrot out for Rudolph, a mince pie for Santa and you book to see Lindzi Germain. It's like a bucket list you've got to go through at Christmas," she said.
A Special Liverpool Crowd
Lindzi said there is nothing like performing in front of a Liverpool crowd at this time of year. "We are very special. Scousers are amazing," she added, describing how someone asking for directions might end up being taken to the person's home for Christmas dinner.
She has many fond memories from her time on stage, including a moment during Cinderella when a man holding a flashing ring went to the toilet halfway through the show. "We just held the show and just waited for him to come back. We got back and we were like, 'We know where you've been'," she said.
New Traditions for the Germain Family
Lindzi said the family starts Christmas in June and is already singing Christmas songs. This year will be more emotional as her son has moved to Canada and will not be home for the festive season.
"It's very emotional, but we're going to make new traditions," she said, adding that the family plans to open presents one at a time instead of all at once. "We've still got the magic, we still believe in the Germain household."
The Scouse Nativity is on at the Royal Court until January 16.
