Leslie Odom Jr to Reprise Aaron Burr Role in London's Hamilton Production
Leslie Odom Jr Joins London Hamilton Cast as Aaron Burr

Leslie Odom Jr, the acclaimed actor who originated the role of Aaron Burr in the Broadway phenomenon Hamilton, is set to return to the celebrated musical. This time, he will make his highly anticipated West End debut in London.

West End Debut and Summer Engagement

The Tony award-winning performer will join the London cast at the historic Victoria Palace theatre for a limited nine-week engagement this summer. Odom earned a Tony award in 2016 for his portrayal of Aaron Burr, a role he developed collaboratively with the show's creator and star, Lin-Manuel Miranda, during early workshops and off-Broadway productions.

Iconic Role and Musical Contributions

In Hamilton, Aaron Burr serves as the primary antagonist—a lawyer and politician whose intense rivalry with Alexander Hamilton, the first US secretary of the treasury, culminates in tragic consequences. Burr delivers the opening lines of the musical, famously introducing himself with the phrase: "And me? I'm the damn fool that shot him." He leads pivotal songs such as Wait for It and The Room Where It Happens, and shares a moving duet, Dear Theodosia, with Hamilton.

Odom's involvement with Hamilton extends beyond the stage. He appears on the Grammy award-winning original cast album and reprised the role for the Disney+ film adaptation, which was recorded at the Richard Rodgers theatre in New York.

Return to the Role and Artistic Reflection

Leslie Odom Jr performed as Aaron Burr in the original Broadway production for a full year and returned for a 12-week stint in 2025. Reflecting on his upcoming West End appearance, Odom stated: "Returning to Hamilton and revisiting the role of Aaron Burr with the growth and perspective of time has been a profoundly healing artistic experience. I am thankful to producers Cameron Mackintosh and Jeffrey Seller for the invitation to make my West End debut with this fabulous company."

Producer Enthusiasm and Historical Context

Cameron Mackintosh, a key producer, expressed his excitement: "When Jeffrey Seller first invited me to see Hamilton during its New York tryout at the Public theatre over 10 years ago, I was knocked out by Leslie Odom Jr's electric performance. I'm absolutely thrilled that London will now be able to share the experience."

Hamilton premiered in London in 2017 and achieved remarkable success, winning seven Olivier awards. Notably, Giles Terera received the Olivier award for best actor in a musical for his portrayal of Aaron Burr during the initial London run.

Broader Impact and Cultural Significance

This announcement underscores the enduring global appeal of Hamilton, a musical that has revolutionised contemporary theatre. Odom's return to the role highlights the production's ongoing evolution and its ability to attract top-tier talent across international stages.
