Jack P Shepherd marks 10 years since Kylie Platt death

Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd, who portrays David Platt, has marked the 10-year anniversary of the death of his on-screen wife Kylie Platt, played by Paula Lane. He shared an emotional Instagram post featuring photos and videos commemorating her heartbreaking exit from the cobbles.

Jack P Shepherd's Emotional Tribute

'10 years ago we said goodbye to Kylie Platt,' Jack posted. 'Here's some behind the scenes pictures and vids, it was a great story & the most challenging story I've played 💔forever missed.' The post highlighted the final moments where Kylie, after being stabbed by villain Clayton (Callum Harrison) while protecting her friend Gemma Winter (Dolly Rose Campbell), died in David's arms.

Jack honoured the storyline as one of the 'most challenging' he has played during his 26-year tenure on Coronation Street. His character has survived serial killer Richard Hillman's reign of terror, pushed his mother Gail down the stairs, struggled with epilepsy, and put his brother Nick in a coma, among other dramatic storylines.

The Love Story of David and Kylie

David fell for Kylie during a holiday in Tenerife and returned to Coronation Street with his new fiancée, who was the half-sister of legendary barmaid Becky McDonald. David's choice did not go down well with his mother Gail, especially when Kylie brought trouble to the Platts' door. Nonetheless, the pair married and welcomed a daughter, Lily Platt.

After Kylie killed her dangerous ex Callum Logan in self-defence, she and David planned to start fresh in Barbados. However, Kylie never made it off the cobbles and was killed by Callum's mate Clayton in harrowing scenes that remain a classic moment even a decade later.

Fan and Cast Reactions

Fans took to Instagram to praise the scene. One wrote: 'Two actors with a connection and incredible focus. Joined at the hip in a storyline that created iconic scenes to say goodbye to Kylie Platt. A moment on the cobbled street that will always be remembered.' Another admitted: 'David and Kylie were the best together not saying I hate David and Shona love them but it just different.'

Jack's on-screen sister Tina O'Brien (Sarah Platt) flooded the comment section with emojis, and Paula Lane herself commented: 'Our song was on the radio the other day and every time it reminds me…Lana Del Rey – video games! Yep we were great!'

Paula Lane's Departure and Career Since

In 2016, Lane announced she would leave Corrie for maternity leave, saying the decision had not been easy. 'I have enjoyed every moment of my time on Coronation Street and learnt so much in the process. I have an amazing on-screen family who have become friends for life so this decision was not taken lightly. But sometimes you just have to follow your heart,' she said.

Since leaving the soap, Lane has starred in Call The Midwife, Father Brown, City 17, and Emmerdale as Ella Foster. The legacy of Kylie Platt and the #Dylie pairing continues to be remembered fondly by fans and cast alike.
