Beginning Sunday, July 26, the BBC will broadcast The Rapture, a psychological thriller adapted from Liz Jensen's bestselling novel. Shot in Wales, the series unfolds during a heatwave and is described as a high-stakes thriller. The cast includes Ruth Madeley, India Amarteifio, Sam Hazeldine, Jack Farthing, and Iwan Rheon.
The synopsis reads: "After a life-altering car accident killed her husband and left her paralysed, psychologist Dr Gabs Fox (Ruth Madeley) starts a new job at a psychiatric hospital where she is assigned 17-year-old inmate Bethany Krall (India Amarteifio). Two years before, Bethany was sectioned for the brutal murder of her mother, Carys Krall. The case shocked the nation, not least because Bethany's father, Leonard Krall (Sam Hazeldine), is the charismatic leader of the Faith Way, a spiritual movement with millions of online followers."
Bethany claims she can see visions of the future, communicating them through disturbing sketches of disasters. Nurse Rafiq insists her predictions always come true, but Gabs is sceptical. As the heat intensifies, Gabs notices unsettling connections between Bethany's drawings and real-world events, forcing her to question Bethany's guilt. With help from journalist Dick Carwyn (Iwan Rheon) and engineer Frasier Melville (Jack Farthing), Gabs investigates the Krall family history.
The Rapture begins on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday, July 26 at 9pm.
