The BBC drama I, Jack Wright concluded its first season with a dramatic cliffhanger, leaving viewers questioning who truly killed the patriarch and what will happen next. The six-part family thriller, written by Chris Lang, aired on BBC One and BBC iPlayer throughout July 2026, after originally debuting on U&Alibi in April 2025.
Who Killed Jack Wright?
In the final episode, DCI Morgan, played by Harry Lloyd, made multiple arrests after closing in on a prime suspect. Emily Wright (Ruby Ashbourne Serkis) and her partner Reuben Maguire (Percelle Ascott) were arrested after text messages suggested they planned the murder, and Reuben was found with bloodstained clothes. Emily claimed the clothes were hers, stained during a scuffle with her grandfather shortly before his death.
Police also arrested Jack's third wife, Sally Wright (Nikki Amuka-Bird). Both Emily and Sally ended the series in jail, professing their innocence. A flash-forward revealed Sally had killed a man, but it was not Jack. Just before the credits, Jack's first wife Rose Wright (Gemma Jones) arrived at the station and confessed, saying, "It was me, I killed Jack Wright," before the screen cut to black with "to be continued..."
Who Received the Inheritance?
Sally's claim to the inheritance was denied due to a prenuptial clause she violated by cheating on Jack. Jack had a DNA test on their son Josh, and both were removed from the Will. Jack's sons, Gray Wright (John Simm) and John Wright (Daniel Rigby), each received £5 million. Granddaughter Emily remained CEO of the company and kept her shares, though her imprisonment puts her position at risk.
