Former Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan has revealed she is actively searching for a new acting role, admitting that ITV bosses have yet to contact her about a return to the cobbles as Rosie Webster.
Looking for the Next Opportunity
The actress, who portrayed Rosie Webster for nearly two decades, expressed her eagerness to get back in front of the camera after a recent stint on stage. Speaking exclusively to Daily Star in collaboration with Paddy Power, Helen said: "I was in theatre for five months and I’ve had a bit of downtime since then, but right now I’m looking for my next job."
She added: "I really want to focus on acting. I did an amazing play for a couple of months and absolutely loved it, so I’d really like to continue building on that side of my career."
Open to Soap Roles
The 35-year-old admitted she would happily take on another soap role and has even set her sights on BBC drama Waterloo Road. "I think I'd be good in Waterloo Road," she said. "I'd probably play either a mum or a teacher. I think that would suit me well."
Despite eyeing a move to the school drama, Helen says her heart still belongs to Weatherfield and she would jump at the chance to reprise her most famous role. "I really want to go back, but they just have not asked me," she said. "If the cobbles come calling, I would love to. I am literally just down the road, but sadly, they have not yet."
Memorable Storylines
Helen became a household name playing Rosie Webster and was involved in some of Coronation Street's biggest storylines during her time on the ITV soap. Looking back, she says she always enjoyed the dramatic plots, although there was one storyline she was not keen on. "I honestly loved big storylines, the juicier the better," she explained.
"But I remember not being happy when they made Rosie a window cleaner because it just didn't fit the character." Rather than accept it, Helen decided to challenge producers over the decision. "I went to the producer and said, 'If Rosie's going to be a window cleaner, she's going to be a glamorous window cleaner.'"
Her persistence paid off. "So they gave me pink overalls with fluff on them," she laughed. "Everyone thought it was hilarious, but I was absolutely determined. Rosie would never wear normal overalls. I was the most glamorous window cleaner going."
Life Away from Acting
Away from acting, Helen admitted she has become more of a homebody as a single mum. "I find dating difficult," she said. "I barely leave the house because I'm either working or looking after my children. I've started forcing myself to go out more because I know I should. I'm only 35, but a lot of the time I'd genuinely rather stay at home."
