Food vlogger Harrison Webb took Gordon Ramsay's recommendation and visited Caractère, the Notting Hill restaurant the celebrity chef called his favourite in the UK. Webb summed up the experience in one word: 'outstanding.'
Gordon Ramsay's Recommendation
In a YouTube video, Harrison Webb asked Gordon Ramsay to name his favourite UK eatery. Ramsay quickly mentioned 'a little hot spot in Notting Hill,' describing it as 'one of the best-kept secrets.' The restaurant, Caractère, is run by a husband-and-wife team. Ramsay noted it is sandwiched between two three-Michelin-star restaurants and has just earned its first star.
Webb's Visit and Menu
Webb visited Caractère on Westbourne Park Road. The three-course à la carte menu costs £125 per head, while a £65 three-course lunch menu is available on Fridays and Saturdays from 12pm to 1:45pm. A wine pairing adds £50 per person. Webb opted for the lunch menu.
His meal began with a tartlet described as 'fishy, salty, mustardy, and very good.' A fishbone-shaped canapé was 'banging,' and an ice-cream cone-shaped offering was 'the lightest, airiest thing.' He praised the 'elite' bread and butter.
Main Courses and Desserts
Webb sampled celeriac fettuccini ('very good'), pink two-year-aged risotto, cod, and chicken. He said, 'I can understand why this is Gordon Ramsay's favourite restaurant. It's laidback, relaxing. The level of food is outstanding. This is probably the best course we've had out of this whole video. I will definitely be coming back.'
Desserts included a strawberry offering ('impeccable') and a chocolate mousse brownie, which Webb gave 'the edge.'
