Emmerdale fans are convinced that Vanessa Woodfield will be the one to kill Dr. Caitlin Todd after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) dropped Charity Dingle's case against the doctor. The ITV soap had previously shown a flashforward revealing that Dr. Todd (Caroline Harker) is destined to be killed, but the circumstances of her death remain unknown.
Charity’s Case Collapses
On Monday, July 20, DS Reid (Angela Lonsdale) visited Charity (Emma Atkins) and Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) to deliver the news that the CPS was abandoning the case due to inadequate evidence. Charity had reported Dr. Todd for blackmail and sexual assault, but the lack of sufficient proof meant no legal action would be taken.
Charity had recently attended a support group for sexual assault survivors but left feeling disheartened. Upon returning home, she told Mackenzie about the group, but the moment was interrupted by a call from DS Reid, who said she would visit with an update. Charity, familiar with police procedures, feared the worst.
Mackenzie’s Frustration
After the CPS decision, Charity went upstairs to rest, devastated that justice had eluded her. Mackenzie, consumed by frustration, vented to Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick). He insisted he would find more evidence against Dr. Todd, pointing out that Todd had previously tried to pressure Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant) into withdrawing a complaint. Mackenzie argued that Todd likely targeted other hospital staff as well.
Vanessa then set a new plan in motion, leading many fans to believe she will ultimately kill Dr. Todd in an act of revenge. On X, one viewer wrote: "Would be great if Vanessa kills Todd #emmerdale." Another added: "Mack and Vanessa are going after more victims of Todd! Think Vanessa will def bump her off." A third commented: "I wish Vanessa didn't have to team up with Mack of all people to bring down Dr. Todd. #Emmerdale."
Employment Matter, Not Criminal
DS Reid explained that Dr. Todd's bullying of Jacob Sugden was an employment matter, not a criminal one, after an investigation. This left Charity and Mackenzie with no immediate legal recourse, prompting Mackenzie to seek other ways to hold Todd accountable.
Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX.
