Charity Dingle's Ordeal After Assault
Emmerdale's Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) has endured a horrific assault by Dr. Todd (Caroline Harker), but she cannot confide in her family due to a web of lies about Leyla's parentage. After getting drunk and confronting Todd, Charity passed out on the sofa, and Todd assaulted her. Upon waking, she threw him out and bravely reported the crime to the police. However, Todd was released after questioning and continued to prey on her.

Meanwhile, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) is grappling with the aftermath of life-saving surgery and the discovery that his cancer has spread. Both Charity and Cain are pushing loved ones away. Charity urges Cain to open up to his wife, but she cannot do the same, refusing to tell Cain the truth.
Family Misunderstandings
Those closest to Charity believe she is suffering from post-natal depression. Her husband Mack (Lawrence Robb) confides in Chas (Lucy Pargeter) that he does not know how to support her. Chas feels guilty for knowing more than she reveals. Charity rejects Mack again and flees in her car, ending up at a lake on the verge of a breakdown.
Mack Calls Police
Mack, unable to find Charity, decides to call the police. As Charity stares at the lake, she hears a noise and realizes she is not alone. A stranger appears, urging her to open up. When the stranger reaches out to touch her, Charity reacts by smacking them. She immediately apologizes, and the stranger responds kindly, analyzing that Charity reacted because the touch was without consent. Charity begins to lower her guard, preparing to talk.
