Emmerdale spoilers have revealed the aftermath of evil Dr Todd's abrupt exit from the village, with fans fearing Charity Dingle will not get justice after a sexual assault.
Dr Todd's Departure and Charity's Ordeal
With Dr Todd leaving Emmerdale this week, spoilers have revealed what happens next. Wednesday's episode saw the vile character depart the show, seemingly getting away with the horrific sexual assault she inflicted on Charity Dingle. Charity had reported her to the police, amid Todd blackmailing her prior to the attack.
But after Todd was released following police questioning, Charity was told by the lead detective that there was not sufficient evidence to charge her. Charity was distraught and decided to withdraw her statement, not wanting to put herself through a case if it would lead nowhere. We then saw Todd being told over the phone that the accusations had been dropped.
She smirked as she said aloud, knowing Charity was there, that the police were "only doing their job", implying it was a false accusation. She then said Charity needed help with her mental health, suggesting this was behind the "false" accusation. With that, she was driven away and fans were furious.
Fallout and Charity's Lies
Spoilers for Friday's episode do not mention Charity or Todd at all. This will be because at the time of their release, the sexual assault storyline had not been confirmed at all. All information related to the storyline was embargoed and so beyond the assault, little was mentioned. Friday's episode does continue the fallout of this week's storylines.
While the focus is just as much on other characters and plots, we do see the fallout to Todd's departure and Charity's turmoil. This is what leads us into next week's episodes, where Charity lies that she has postnatal depression. As she breaks down, she tries to pin it all on this fake diagnosis, with other characters assuming that this is what she is dealing with. Charity does not confirm her assault ordeal to anyone.
As the week starts, Mack, Charity's husband, is under the impression she is suffering from PND. GP Manpreet Sharma is told the same, as she pays a visit to Charity who then confirms this is the case. Manpreet will prescribe Charity with some medication, while Charity's loved ones are concerned for her. But Charity bottles up the fact that her turmoil that she can't even hide at this point is completely down to her horrendous assault ordeal.
As Charity continues to spiral, she knocks back the booze and sleeping pills to drown out her pain. As Sarah urges her grandmother to confide in her in case there's more going on, Charity refuses, but will she tell someone the truth?
