Death in Paradise fans think they have worked out who the next lead Detective Inspector will be, following a recurring casting trend noticed by viewers.
The History of DIs on Death in Paradise
Since the BBC crime drama first aired in 2011, audiences have seen multiple actors take on the role of the principal Detective Inspector. Ben Miller started as DI Richard Poole for two series, succeeded by Kris Marshall as DI Humphrey Goodman. After Goodman departed Saint Marie in 2017, Ardal O'Hanlon arrived as DI Jack Mooney, followed by Ralf Little as DI Neville Parker in 2020. Currently, Don Gilet plays DI Mervin Wilson.
Fan Theory on Casting Pattern
On Reddit, one viewer noted that previous DIs appeared as suspects before taking the lead role. Ralf Little was a suspect in season 2 episode 6, and Don Gilet appeared in season 4 episode 1. Fans now speculate that the next DI could be an actor who played a suspect during DI Jack Mooney's tenure.
Suggested names include Mark Benton, who appeared in season 7 episode 2, with fans praising his work in Shakespeare & Hathaway. Another suggestion was the actor who played Neil in The Inbetweeners, noted for his comedic timing. One commenter proposed Will Mellor, Ralf Little's real-life friend, as a potential addition.
Death in Paradise is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
