David Harbour has spoken publicly for the first time about his ex-wife Lily Allen's revealing album West End Girl, which chronicles the breakdown of their relationship.
Harbour's Comments on the Album
In a new interview with Variety, the Stranger Things actor described the experience as "weird," but acknowledged Allen's right to create art from personal experiences. "I do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that," Harbour said.
When asked about the specific claims made on the album—which touches on infidelity and emotional manipulation—Harbour declined to elaborate, emphasizing his desire for privacy. "I can't really say that much more because it's my private life," he stated. "In spite of the fact that a lot of people don't allow me a private life – I value it."
Regarding whether he wanted to refute any of the album's content, Harbour responded: "Stories are complex and that's why I say I respect her creation of art to channel her experience. It wasn't my experience."
Allen's Perspective and Album Success
Allen, who separated from Harbour in early 2025 after marrying in 2020, described the album as "a mixture of fact and fiction" in a Vogue interview. "There are things that are on the record that I experienced within my marriage, but that's not to say that it's all gospel," she said. "It is inspired by what went on in the relationship."
The Guardian's Alexis Petridis praised West End Girl as "an act of unstoppable personal exorcism." Allen has since embarked on a concert tour and is in talks to create a play inspired by the album's songs.
Bullying Allegations Involving Millie Bobby Brown
Following the album's release, tabloid reports alleged that Harbour's Stranger Things co-star Millie Bobby Brown had filed a bullying and harassment claim against him. Harbour denied any lasting tension, calling the timing "weird" and emphasizing their bond. "You'll see more of me and Millie – 10 years wasn't enough," he said. "There is a special bond there. I love her. She loves me."
Harbour will next appear as Santa Claus in the action comedy sequel Violent Night 2.
