Crystal Lake Release Window Unveiled for Friday the 13th Prequel

Eerie first images from the highly-anticipated thriller series Crystal Lake have been unveiled, along with an official release window. The show, described as a "thrilling expansion of the iconic Friday the 13th universe," will consist of eight episodes.

Release Date and Platform

The series, starring Dead to Me actress Linda Cardellini, will be available exclusively on Sky and streaming service NOW in the UK and Ireland from October 2026. With only a few months left until the prequel airs, Sky has shared gripping details about the plot.

Plot Overview

The show follows single mother Pam Voorhees (Cardellini), who has been unable to shake her grief after her young son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake almost a year before. Sky teased: "When two strangers arrive at Pam's door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events is set into motion, leaving the townspeople of Crystal Lake wondering: just who is Pam Voorhees?"

Cast and Creators

The series, which "expands the mythology of one of horror's most enduring franchises," also stars William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom. Created by Brad Caleb Kane, the show promises "psychological suspense, mystery and emotional storytelling."

Creator's Promise to Fans

Kane told fans: "For fans of the franchise, I can promise them that they're going to be seeing a show that was made and crafted by fans, people who grew up with the franchise, people like me who saw these movies in theatres when they were released with large crowds, who screamed at all of the kills, and who wanted to recreate that feeling for at-home audiences. So people should expect a ride, incredible performances, and a show that exists within the canon and with the DNA of the original franchise. Crystal Lake was made with so much love and respect for the fans and for the franchise in general."

Fan Reactions

The series is expected to bring a fresh take on one of the most iconic horror franchises, and fans have already expressed excitement. One Reddit user commented: "This looks great. I love how there's actual colour there and the vibes just fit perfectly. I hope it's successful and can go for multiple seasons. I miss the Friday the 13th atmosphere. While this doesn't have the Jason we know and love, it still has the iconic camp and a killer so it still looks like a lot of fun."

Crystal Lake will be available exclusively on Sky and streaming service NOW in October 2026.
