A Coronation Street star has revealed that the storyline involving Megan Walsh is far from over, as a new arrival is set to spark chaos for the Driscolls.
Megan's Mother Arrives
Catherine Tyldesley, who plays Eva Price, has confirmed that Megan's mother, Janine, will make an unexpected appearance on the cobbles. The actress told TV Times magazine: "When Janine reveals who she is, it's like a red rag to a bull for Ben. Janine tries to apologise on behalf of Megan; she is bewildered as to why this happened. But, sometimes, people grow up in normal, loving families and things go extremely wrong."
Tyldesley added: "That's what Eva sees. She's like, 'It's not Janine's fault.' Then you've got Maggie, who's like, 'Well, Megan has learnt this behaviour from someone!'"
Background of the Plot
As viewers of the ITV soap know, Megan ended up staying in Weatherfield after Will complained to his family about having to leave his athletics training behind. His dad, Ben Driscoll, had surprised partner Eva Price by moving from Hull to the street to run the Rovers Return.
However, it was soon revealed that Will didn't want to leave Hull because he was in a secret relationship with Megan as part of a shocking grooming plot. The pair slept together just as he turned 16.
In March, the truth appeared to be exposed when Sam Blakeman, who had sussed out what was going on and was being threatened by Megan into silence, ended up in hospital and confessed what he knew to stepmother Leanne Battersby and her sister, Eva Price.
Megan, who found out she was pregnant before the truth was exposed, got away with her crimes as she and Will stuck to their story that Will had an out-of-control crush that Megan struggled to shut down. With Megan claiming to have suffered a miscarriage when she actually had an abortion, there was no firm evidence to link her to Will.
Will's Confession and Court Case
Will has since finally told the police the truth about his and Megan's relationship. DS Lisa Connor-Swain went on to charge Megan after questioning. However, a court case looms after Megan pleaded not guilty to the crimes against her, and she was recently released on bail ahead of the trial.
Now, the Driscolls must contend with Janine's arrival as they try to get justice for Will.
Actress Beth Nixon on Playing Megan
Actress Beth Nixon recently opened up about playing Megan and the public reaction she has received six months after her debut. She told the Manchester Evening News and other press: "I mean, I love playing Megan because she's so horrible. They're my favourite types of characters to play. But I've loved it. It's such a, like, there's so much room to play with her because she just tells lies like they're nothing. So there's so many layers to the character."
She added: "I've loved playing Megan. And then the public reaction, I think obviously people hate her and, she's a cow. But then it's quite interesting because I think there's people who are trying to understand her because we've never gone into why she's doing the things that she's doing."
