Coronation Street spoilers next week reveal a new storyline involving Joseph Brown, played by William Flanagan. Joseph is the son of Chesney Winter-Brown and Katy Armstrong. In 2017, Katy was killed off-screen in a car accident while living in Portugal with her mother Linda Hancock. Joseph returned to the UK to live with Chesney. Since then, Linda, played by Jacqueline Leonard, has made sporadic appearances and paid for Joseph's private school fees.
School Report Raises Concerns
In upcoming scenes, Joseph hands Chesney and Gemma his school report and makes a rapid exit. The duo are taken aback to discover that Joseph is often late with his homework, leaving them concerned about his academic performance. Later in the week, Gemma laments to her mother Bernie Winter that Joseph is falling behind because it's impossible for him to concentrate at home due to their large family. Joseph has four siblings — Aled, Bryn, Llio and Carys — as Chesney and Gemma welcomed quadruplets in 2019.
Bernie Offers a Solution
Coming up with a solution, Bernie suggests Joseph study in peace at her house, leaving Chesney and Gemma grateful for her kind offer. However, the duo's problems are only just starting. Later, Chesney breaks the news to Gemma that Linda's holiday rental business has gone bankrupt and she can no longer afford Joseph's school fees.
Financial Struggles and Loan Plans
The family are left worried about Joseph's education as Chesney tells Gemma he's been looking into taking out a loan to pay for his son's school fees. Bernie is horrified at the thought of them getting into debt amid their current money problems. As the week ends, Gemma and Chesney tell Joseph that Linda has been in touch and she's managed to find the money for his school fees. But it remains uncertain how long the fees will be covered.
Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV and ITVX.
