In Coronation Street, Dylan Wilson faces arrest after Lisa Swain reports him to the police for non-fatal strangulation of her daughter Betsy. The storyline, which began this week, examines the devastating consequences of such an act.
Betsy's Stroke and Hospitalization
Betsy Swain was rushed to hospital where doctors confirmed she suffered a stroke caused by a blood clot, resulting from neck artery damage due to temporary loss of circulation. The teen experienced a second stroke in the hospital and revealed that Dylan strangled her during consensual sex, despite both believing the pressure applied was minimal.
Lisa Reports Dylan to Police
In Thursday's episode (July 16), Betsy pleaded with her mother not to blame Dylan, but Lisa was furious and went to the station to report a crime. Spoilers confirm that Dylan gets arrested at the precinct, leaving Betsy stunned.
Dylan's Denial and Confrontation
Later, when Sean and Dylan go to The Rovers, Lauren refuses to serve them. Dylan claims Brody was responsible for what happened to Betsy. Next week, Brody confronts Dylan for spreading lies and says he would press charges without hesitation. Ryan also tells Dylan some home truths, making him question his role.
Dylan Accepts Responsibility
Dylan visits Betsy and accepts responsibility for her condition, apologizing. When a police officer arrives to take Betsy's statement, a terrified Dylan makes himself scarce.
Collaboration with Experts
The soap worked with the Institute for Addressing Strangulation (IFAS), The Stroke Association, and Safeline. Experts reviewed scripts and met with the production team and actors to ensure the storyline was portrayed responsibly.
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
