Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon has offered fans a tantalizing glimpse of upcoming drama on the ITV soap, teasing a major murder reveal and a tense dinner party scene.
Explosive Dinner Party Ahead
Appearing on Friday's edition of Lorraine, with Ruth Langsford standing in for Lorraine Kelly, the actress who plays Maria shared details about Monday's episode. She revealed that the drama will "ramp up" as the identity of a killer is finally disclosed.
After a preview clip aired, Longchambon told host Ruth Langsford: "Filming it was really awkward but it was loads of fun." She explained that Maria and Gary end up at the dinner party by accident, as Kit plans to propose to Sarah that night. "Kit didn't want any of us there, didn't want any of this to happen," she added.
Behind the Scenes of the Hour-Long Special
Langsford described the episode as "dark and dramatic," to which Longchambon responded: "I feel awful sitting here being like 'yeah I want to talk about it' but I don't want to give anything away!" She noted that the first 15 minutes of the hour-long episode consist of a single 21-page scene.
"We had a read-through with the director and blocked it all on set the week before filming. It felt like we were filming something else entirely," she said. The cast broke the scene into three sections to ease pressure, with the tension building toward the end.
Maria's Suspicions and the Killer Reveal
Longchambon teased that Maria's suspicions about Gary and Sarah have been escalating on screen. "We know something is going on but we just don't know what, but you are going to find out on Monday!" she confirmed. The truth about Theo's killer will also emerge, she hinted: "It's going to come out! It'll be totally out of left-field who it is. There are so many twists and turns."
The fallout from the reveal will affect many characters, she added. Fans have already expressed excitement on social media, with comments like "Can't wait for this" and "Very exciting!"
Coronation Street airs weekday nights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
