Coronation Street and Emmerdale Cancelled Again Due to ITV World Cup Coverage
Coronation Street and Emmerdale Cancelled for World Cup

Coronation Street and Emmerdale have been cancelled once again due to a schedule shake-up on ITV. The broadcaster is airing the opening ceremony for the FIFA World Cup 2026 ahead of the first match between Mexico and South Africa, causing both soaps to be removed from their usual slots.

Thursday's Episodes Axed

The soaps typically air on weekdays at 8pm and 8.30pm, but Thursday's episodes have been cancelled as World Cup coverage occupies their time slots. The opening ceremony begins at 6.15pm, followed by the first match kicking off at 8pm.

This is not the first disruption this week. The soaps were cancelled on Tuesday evening and were moved forward by one hour on Wednesday.

Friday Night Drama Returns

Fans can look forward to both Corrie and Emmerdale returning on Friday evening. Viewers can enjoy a night of drama in the Dales followed by chaos in Weatherfield with two hour-long broadcasts at 8pm and 9pm.

The description for Friday's episode of Emmerdale reads: "Archie scams Caleb, while Gabby's healthy-eating obsession takes a darker turn and Graham urges Kyle to talk to Cain."

As for Coronation Street, the teaser reads: "Sam's mental state declines severely when fact and fiction collide, a suspicious Maria is stood up by Gary, Debbie's pals organise a surprise holiday, and Carla makes a discovery."
